It was a sweet victory for Eldonets Basketball team to beat Africa Nazarene University (ANU) at the ongoing Kenya Basketball federation Division One League at Uaisn Gishu High School Court in the play off as teams seeks to get an opportunity to play at the semi final.
The win was good for the hosts who lost to the students last week in Nairobi. And it extended the return leg till Sundays compared to when they had lost on Saturday.
Playing on their homeground, Eldonets made 80 baskets ahead of their visitors ANU who managed 51 at the final whistle.
George Ogada and John Biar of Eldonets were top scorers in the opening quarter while ANU’s Byles Cossiga recorded 15 scores as Eldonets won the first quarter in 22-15.
But their dominance was cut shot in the second quarter when visitors managed a slim 16-14 with Emmanuel Mwangi toping the baskets at 9 for ANU but their win was rattling a snake as Eldonets returned spitting venom and took an early lead to win the third quarter 24-05.
The die was cast in the last quarter when all teams were on the verge of winning but luck befell hosts, taking advantage of home fans and 20-15 for a final score of 80-51.
At the end of the match, Eldonets’ George Oyoo, James Omweno, were top scorers with 17 and 15 points apiece while Byles Cossiga and Jonathan Kuhibagaya were top scorers with 10 and 7 points respectively.
Now focus shifts to Sunday’s final play where any team that will win, will automatically qualify for semi final match.
