Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya ha started rolling its sensitization programme to school going kids in a move aimed at enlightening the children on the effects of drugs in sport.
Over 300 school kids were taken through the programme during Tuskeys Wareng Cross Country in Eldoret on Sunday.
They were taught on the side effects of using drugs in sports and the reason they should always uphold the spirit of running and winning clean.
Speaking during the function, Chief Executive Officer Adak Kiplimo Rugut said it was salient to target young kids in order to tame the menace.
“Part of our programme is also to take this ant-doping campaign to schools. We need our children to know that it is bad to take drugs in order to enhance performance in sport,”Rugut said.
H e said earlier enlightenment will inculcate the negative attitude towards the use of steroids in the sport hence winning the war against drugs in the game.
“So far we have been holding seminars to teach athletes and we have included kids because they are our future sportspeople. Use of drugs has a lot of health effects and athletes should really be aware of that. We want to remain a clean nation,” He added.
Over the past three years, Kenya has been grappling with doping monster with over 40 athletes hving being banned for doping offences.
