Umoja Basketball team defied cheers and noise from fans of Eldonets to win against their hosts during the Kenya Basketball Division One League played on Saturday at Uasin Gishu High school court.
The semi final game one was too good for visitors who beat their hosts Eldonets 77-64 with Umoja dominating in all quarters as the second game awaits on Sunday morning at the same venue.
Hosts lost the first quarter 13-19 as the losing continued to the last set. In the second quarter, Eldonets were leading upto 10-05 but the backline failed to contain serious Umoja’s who came from behind against stagnant Eldnets to win in 21-18. In third quarter both teams tied on 18 basckets apiece as the draw gave hosts hope to try their best in the last quarter but determined Umoja did not allow them to win as on the final whistle, hosts lost two baskets of 19-17.
Eldonets Captain Maurice Ouma said the loss was painful since it has opened another journey since they have to win the remaining four games.
“It is painful to lose at home but to be sure they dominated against us. They have more experience compared to us. But tomorrow, we will try our best to come back and reclaim the win before traveling to Nairobi next weekend,” said Ouma who also turns up as a coach for his team.
Umoja’s Nick Ogol and Kevin Sungut were top scorers with 16 and 10 points apiece while home based James Omweno and George Oyoo were on top with 14 and 10 points each.
