Dreams for Eldonets to play at the Kenya Basketball Federation premier league next year continued to grow slimmer after suffering a big blow when they lost two of their opening matches in the hands of visitors Umoja.
Home ground and fans did not hinder the visiting team as players dominated the two semi final matches played played at Uasin Gishu court on Saturday and Sunday morning.
Eldonets will have a mountain to climb when they travel to Nairobi’s Nyayo National stadium for third, fourth and fifth return matches.
The self sponsored team will face a hard nut to crack and overturn the deficit for them to proceed to the final, where all finalists automatically qualify for next year’s premier league.
The visitors Umoja dominated the two matches winning all of them. On Saturday, Eldonets lost to 64-77 (13-19, 16-21, 18-21 and 18-19) and on Sunday, it was a repeat after they lost 49-54 (15-22, 10-13, 10-07 and 14-12) to Nairobi based club.
The only team based outside Nairobi in the basketball team qualified to play at the semi final match, Eldonets beat Africa Nazarene University (ANU) two weeks ago at the same venue in a sweet revenge.
Eldonets won with two matches against ANU 68-66 and 80-51 in the two matches that determined who proceeds to the next level during the play-off matches. And it was a sweet revenge for the Eldoret based team who lost to ANU in the previous weekend.
