Kenya Rugby family is mourning the death of Ogeto Gecheo, a player from Nondescripts RUFC player who died on Monday in a Nairobi Hospital from a spinal injury sustained in the match against Strathmore University at the weekend.
One of the team officials recounted what let to this unfortunate incident by explaining Gecheo sustained a spine injury and was taken to hospital for surgery.
Those who visited recall he had no sensation in his lower limbs and was expected to be in the High Dependency Union for a few days after a successful surgery which involved having plates affixed on his vertebral column after which he could move his arms and neck and breathe on his own.
He was supposed to have started physiotherapy the next day and the doctor in charge said he had a very good chance of walking again but added this will take a long time.
But, Gecheo, a former captain at Impala Academy last season before moving to Nondies passed on. The official stated: “It’s with deep sadness we have lost a good gentleman Ogeto passed on last night! Please keep him in your prayer.”
This sent the shockwaves through the rugby fraternity who have been saddened by the death. Gecheo was the younger brother of Auka Gecheo, the Nondies’ chairman and general manager of SuperSport.
