Defending champion Jeff Kubwa will lead other leading top amateur golfers at this year’s Nairobi District Foursomes golf tournament at par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club on Saturday to kick off the year.
Playing on home course, Kubwa will be defending his title he won last year in the annual event to face off with vet Lab’s Edwin Mudanyi, Robinson Owiti, Kenneth Bollo among other amateur golfers.
Kubwa said even though he is the defending champion, the challenge will be stiff since golfers have been training a lot for the event after a long recess and long December holidays.
“I will be facing a lot challenges from other golfers but that won’t deter me from defending my title. I will do my best,” said Kubwa, the 2016 Golfer of the Year (Goty) first runner up to Bollo.
Kubwa’s team beat Limuru team after they tied and the winner determined in sadden death on hole 19.
The three day event will bring together golfers from 11 clubs to sharpen their skills ahead of Barclays Bank Kenya Open and Goty event that kicks off on Saturday at Sigona golf club for Sigona Bowl.
The tradition of the tournament is that 18 hole courses like vet Lab, Winsor, Sigona, Limuru, Thika and host Muthaiga and others will field A and B teams compared to nine hole courses that will field a single player.
In other clubs; Nakuru golf club will host Tombstone golf Tournament, vet Lab for Sungura Cup, Thika to host November Mug, Year Opener Golf day at Limuru Golf club, Kitale to host Kerkeng Enterprises Golf Day, Chinese New Year Golf Competition at Sigona same to Kiambu golf club while Machakos will host ICEA’s Lion Group King of the course golf tournament.
