Mwanahalima, Kirui tipped for Soya awards

She stepped out of Harambee Starlets at the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCN) held in Cameroon as she prepared for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at St. John’s Kaloleni but she is expected to run away with most promising sports person’s top prize.

Mwanahalima Adams is the favourite   in the 2016 Safaricom’s Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) award as the most promising category to be staged at Carnivore Grounds on 20th in girls category while reigning world 3,000m world under 20 champion Amos Kirui will be chasing the boys category.

Mwanahalina was the pillar at the east Africa secondary schools sports Association held in Eldoret in September after losing at the final against GS Remera but did not to travel to Cameroon for continental event after helping her country to qualify.

She will face off for the title with Maurine Thomas who finished 5th at world junior championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, golfer Kelly Gachaga, the Amateur Stroke play champion, Sneha Kotecha, the Continental CAT Under Masters Tennis winner  and volleyball star Yvone Wavinya the under 23 Africa Nations volleyball best attacker after helping her country finish second.

Kirui on the other side had a splendid season beating Ethiopian Getnet Wale will face off with footballer Joseph Okumu of Chemelil Sugar  before joining South African Premier League Free State for professional football.

Others include Bett Kipyegon, the 800m world junior champion, Jet Tukene, a motorist together with tennis player Ryan Ondiek.
