Mudanyi takes early lead at Sigona Bowl

Vet Lab’s Edwin Mudanyi shot level par at the par 72 Sigona golf Club during the Sigona Bowl Championships to lead on day one of the Golfer  of the Year (Goty) opener on Saturday.

With just months after winning Nyali Open Championships, Mudanyi played set up a one shot lead as the event comes to an end on Sunday. He has one shot lead above home golfer Shiv Shah and Royal Club’s  Bor Ciera.

Coming from a golfing family that includes Nelson Mudanyi, the Young Mudanyi shot a bogey in the opening hole after dropping two more bogies the 5th and 6th in the first nine before returning with back-back birdies in the last nine.

Mudanyi later birdied the 13th at the back nine and stayed on course by picking five straight pars that counted for the day’s 72.

Shah bogeyed three holes with only one birdie at the first nine, recovered with two birdies at the 13th and 16th but bogey at the home green spoiled what would have been a clean back nine.

The handicap one Ciera birdied the first and eighth with a bogey in between (fifth).

He dropped more shots after missing the greens on the par five-10th and at the 13th.

He quickly recovered with two successive birdies at the 15th and 16th only to throw them away with a double bogey at the 17th for one over par 73.
He shared the second place with Shiv as Limuru’s John Karichu, now back to his usual top form, breathing fire just behind on two over par 74 in fourth.

Another Sigona player, John Ndichu, tied with David Bailey on 75 and a shot further behind were Nyali’s Dickson Baraza and J. Mwangi from Vet Lab.
