Rift Valley Handball Federation will host its elections the coming Thursday in Eldoret as a way solidifying the sport in the region.
As members go to the polls, Kenyatta University don Benjamin Kosgei has criticized the manner in which the country is being run.
Kosgey said there is lack of vibrant leadership to revive the sport in Rift Valley region.
He says there should be change in the sport management and make it vibrant.
The man guided Silibwet and St. Peters Chesirikwa High school teams to national titles, there is need for urgent intervention measures to save the sport in the rift.
“The sport has been dormant in the region and that is why we have seen a lot of talents stagnating. We need proper leadership to revive the sport to its former glory,” Kosgei said.
As they go to elections, Kosgei promised to bring in new changes to elevate the sport.
Kosgei is vying for the chairmanship post alongside Francis Pere who is a ward Administrator from Kajiado County while incumbent Joel Nandi is still undecided if he will defend the seat.
He said tournaments like Kericho Open that used to be held in the region have disappeared.
Kipkoech Cheruiyot will face off with Agnes Ruto both from Bomet while Gilbert Chumba of Uasin Gishu will contest the Secretary General post with the incumbent Wamalwa Wafula.
Technical Director Julius Koech of Baringo will defend the seat against Dennis Ayieko of Kericho and Peter Ngeny (Nandi)
