Athletes suspension should be investigated

Anti Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) will be dicking deep to know why top athletes were suspended from Rosa Associati Training camp in Kaptagat.

Speaking during the Adak sensitization seminar on Deaflympics in Eldoret, Adak’s CEO Kiplimo Rugut said they will open investigations on why the athletes were suspended by the Italian manager.

Three runners who were suspended include the Paris marathon champions of Visiline Jepkesho and Purity Rionoripo together Tokyo marathon champion Sarah Chepchirchir.

The trio were suspended for suspiciously associating with reigning Olympic marathon champion Jemiamah Sumgong who is suspected to have doped by erythropoietin (EPO).

“We as Adak is going to investigate the matter and the basis of suspension and we will follow it independently,” Rugut said.

According to Rugut, Adak has a way of knowing if the athletes are culpable through testing.

“Suspension without testing is uncalled for and this has made us to have interests in this matter because it raises a lot of issues. What do they know that we don’t know,” Rugut added.

“Why suspend only few athletes yet they are training many of them. Or the athletes are guilty of association? They should come pout clear and we are following on the matter,” he said.

Rugut said athletes signed contracts with the management and they will also found out on it because the contract also stipulates termination of service.

Sumgong who became the first Kenyan female athlete to win an Olympic marathon gold tested positive of the banned substance in an out of competition testing.

Results for her Sample B testing are being waited before an action is taken against her.
