Defending champions draw as school games begin

Kenya secondary schools Sports Association term 2A soccer champions St. Anthony Kitale and Wiyeta played out to draws on the opening matches in boys and girls matches respectively at the Shimo La Tewa Ground on Tuesday.

St. Anthony, representing Rift Valley region at the games played out to a barren draw against soccer giants Kakamega High school from Western region Boys’ pool A match.

As the defending champions, St. Anthony and Kakamega is in group A alongside Ramisi of Coast, Garissa of North Eastern.

But luck came in handy for Coast side Ramisi that beat Garissa by a solitary goal to lead pool A with three points.

In pool B matches Nyanza’s Kisumu Day won against Nairobi side Upper Hill by 2-0 while 2015 champions Passenga  from Central humiliated Isiolo High school from Eastern 4-0.

Wiyeta’s dominance in girls’ pool A match was held by Kwale Girls when they played out to a two all draw.  Nyakach Girls from Nyanza walloped Utithi Secondary school 5-0 to lead pool A. in pool B, western’s Chebukaka girls won against Olympic Olympic Girls from Nairobi while Njabini from central won 2-1 against Waa Girls from Coast.

It was a day of harvest for Moi Girls’ Kamusinga in girls’ handball. With their experience in the games they beat Utithi 30-28 before St. Francis Cheptarit of Rift Valley shone against Wajir Girls 52-00 in pool A while Voi White House lost by a solitary shot against New Jogoo Road Girls of 17 to 18 before National champions Sega Girls’ from Nyanza beat Kahuho 38-09.

In boys handball,  Western representaives Mukumu Boys shone against Barani 31-14, Nduluni 41-16 Sheikh Ali, Kenyatta lost 20-26 against Sinyerere and Dr. Ribiero beat Kanyawanga 18-14.

In netball, Obambo girls beat Utithi 48-14, National champions Kaya Tiwi shining over Moi girls’ Mandera 130 against a single point and Cheptil won by a slim margin of 27-24 against Karuri.
