On Friday, Kenya Golf Union (KGU) chairman Richard Wanjala released the names of the players for the event that will be captained by Railway Club’s Alfred Nandwa under coach John Van Liefland.

Nandwa said they have a better team compared to last year one that won the title and promised to defend the title and celebrate back home.

“We know we will be playing on their home country but that will not deter our efforts to play well and carry the trophy home,” said Nandwa.

The ten man squad to Entebbe are top amateur golfers currently playing Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGU) led by Limuru’s John Karichu who is currently leading the KAGC table. Second placed Mike Kisia from Vet Lab, Samuel Njoroge (Kenya Railways) Edwin Mudanyi of Vet Lab, Kenya number one golfer Kenneth Bollo of Royal Club, Jeff Kubwa from Muthaiga, Dennis Saikwa (Royal), Kenya’s top two juniors Agil Is-Hag from Nyali and Mutahi Kibugu from Muthaiga.

“We have a better team compared to what we had last year. This year, most golfers are plus One or Two handicap compared to last year’s. at the same time, we have the best performers making the team more formidable than last year. Meaning, we have an upper hand to win the title than last year,” added Nandwa.

The golfers are expected to travel on July 4th   as four of the Uganda-bound namely Nandwa, Njoroge, Karichu and Mudanyi represented Kenya during this year’s Africa Region Five Championship at Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe Zambia where Kenya reached the semi-finals in the first division.
