Defending Limuru open title is my target-Paul Muchangi

Playing on home ground, Limuru’s Paul Muchangi is determined to defend his Limuru Open Championships title set for tomorrow at the par 72 Limuru golf course.

Muchangi, who will face his club mates for the title led by John Karichu and John Kariuki will be targeting to defend his title on home soil and make a maiden win in the 9th leg of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) formerly Golfer of The Year (GOTY).

His daily training session is hoping they will bare fruits come Saturday and Sunday where the golfers will be taking on 54 holes, 36 on the opening day and 18 on the last day.

“I have been training with 200 balls on the range three times a day and putt for three hours daily to ensure that I sharpen my skills,” said Muchangi on Friday morning.

With his bad start in the series, Muchangi said playing on home ground will give him an upper hand to ensure that he wins the first KAGC title.

“I really want to win this tournament since I haven’t won any meeting since this tournament started and I have not been doing well this year” admitted Muchangi.

Last year, he played three over par gross 218. He started well playing three under par 69 followed with five over par 77 and played level on the last 18 to emerge the winner.

But his main challengers are home boys Karichu, the current KAGC leader and Kariuki.

“My serious competitors are home golfers  and if I manage to beat them, nobody will be ahead of me,” added Muchangi.

Muchangi will be taking on the tenth tee at 8:10 am playing alongside K. Juma and T Malik.
