Former Kenyan international turned Bahrain Rose Chelimo denied fellow Kenyans gold medal in women’s marathon in the Olympic Stadium showdown.
Chelimo from Nandi County denied Edna Kiplagat a hat trick in the women’s marathon at the IAAF World Championships in London.
On the home stretch, Chelimo on Sunday outpaced Kenya’s Kiplagat in the last one kilometre in London.
Chelimo crossed the line in 2:27:11 with Kiplagat second while USA’s Amy Cragg outsprinted Kenya’s Flomena Cheyech in the battle for bronze.
Kiplagat was out to become the first woman to win the world title three times after her previous victories in 2011 Daegu and 2013 Moscow but Chelimo spoilt the party.
Chelimo, who has been training in her Kapsabet base, ran a tactical race in the last few kilometres to stun the Kenyan favourite.
