Kenya Premier League: Tusker fc wins

Ghanaian import Stephen Owusu marked his return to the Tusker team with a brace to help his side to a 2-1 win over Western Stima in a week 19 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash staged at Kinoru Stadium in Meru on Sunday 6 August.

The win was a welcome boost for George Nsimbe’s side, coming from a poor spell in the league and it served revenge for the Brewers who lost to Stima in the corresponding first leg fixture. It also aided the Brewers close in on title rivals Gor Mahia who had won an earlier clash against Muhoroni Youth.

Owusu put the hosts in the lead in the 25th minute from the spot after Ezekiel Otuoma was penalized for bringing down Jackson Macharia in the box. The Ghanaian who was left in the cold in the entire first leg due to the foreign quota rule then doubled the hosts’ lead five minutes later, heading to the break comfortably in the lead.

Stima’s goal which proved to be just a consolation came through Samuel Odhiambo later in the second half.

Meanwhile, Hamisi Abdalla netted the only goal at the Afraha Stadium as visitors Bandari FC saw off AFC Leopards, earning revenge for the first leg loss inflicted on them weeks ago in Mombasa.

In another match of the day, Mathare United’s push to get out of the relegation zone suffered a setback after playing to a 1 – 1 draw with hosts Sony Sugar at the Awendo Green Stadium.

Youngster Ronald Reagan, roped in from National Super League (NSL) side Kibera Black Stars in June 2017, put Francis Kimanzi’s charges in the lead only for Amos Asembeka to ensure a share of the spoils from the spot.

At the Chemelil Complex, there was another 1-1 draw where the hosts Chemelil Sugar FC were held by league newbies Zoo Kericho.

Zoo arrived into this game buoyed by their 3-2 win over Kariobangi Sharks in week 18 and Mike Madoya’s second half strike ensured a share of the spoils after Chemelil had taken the lead through John Mwita’s goal five minutes before the break.
