IAAF worlds: Trio Kiyeng, Kirui, Chepkoech storm in final race

3,000m world championships defending champion Hyvin Kiyeng led a host of Kenyan runners to qualify to run into final of the water and barriers in the ongoing IAAF World championships in London, Great Britain.

The Olympic 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist led her compatriot Purity Cherotich Kirui, the 2014 Commonwealth champion.

The two athletes were in heat one where Kiyeng, 2011 All Africa Games champion finished second behind Germany international Gesa Felicitas Krause who won in 9:39.86 and Kiyeng followed in 9:39.89 before Kirui, 2015 All Africa Games bronze medalist completed the podium in 9:40.53.

In heat two, 2015  Africa Games Bronze medalist in 1,500m Beatrice Chepkeoch won the second heat to automatically follow her Kenyan counterparts in the race for medals.

She led Kenyan born turned Bahrain international and Olympic Steeplechase champion Ruth Jebet who finished second timing 9:19.52 with Chepkoech’s 9:19.03.
