Nakuru Monthly Mug: Hillary Korir sinks a birdie to lift the title

Handicap 11 golfer Hillary Korir won the Nakuru Golf club’s July Monthly Mug played on par 73 Nakuru Golf course on Saturday as Nanji II Shillen was the lowest Gross Score.

Korir sunk a birdie on par 3 hole 15 to propel him to the top of the rest.

Enjoying home course, Korir posted three under par 69 to lift the title after recording 80 Gross to shine over 20 other home golfers.

He registered 6 pars in the opening nine on holes 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and9, and three bogies on hole 3,4 and 7 to complete the inward nine.

On resumption, he sunk a birdie on hole 15 following his poor start on hole 10 with a triple bogey, followed with three pars on holes 11, 12 and 13, before adding other two pars on holes 16 and 18. He sunk two bogies on holes 14 and 17.

He was closely followed by Patel Ashok who played one under 72 to finish second. The handicap 13 golfer played 12 over 85 ahead of Fazal Hassan who completed the podium after playing level 73.

Despite playing Lowest Gross of 78, handicap 05 Shillen finished 4th overall when he played level losing to Hassan through count back.
