Sepetuka Sevens: KCB out of main cup semi-final

Sudden death try from Sam Muregi sent youthful Menengai Oilers to the semi final match of the Sepetuka sevens played at Eldoret Sports Club on Sunday morning as top seed Kenya Commercial Bank failed to proceed to semifinal in the National rugby sevens fourth leg.

Oilers beat Kenya Harlequins 24-19 in the sudden death play after 19 points each in the normal time. On the restart, Oilers kicked the ball and winger Muregi went up in air, handled the ball and over-sped past Harlequins backline for a single try to send the Nakuru based side to the semifinal match.

In the normal time, Dan Omunga gave Harlequins the lead but Harold Advante cancelled with his fast run on the right win as Daniel Abodni extended the lead into break with 14-05 for Oilers.

In the second half, Herman Himwa, Aaron Olwok and Aden Agero all went past the white wash to give Quins 19-14 lead but on the hooter, Derrick Keyoga surprised try leveled the score as they were forced to enter into sudden death in the last main cup quarter final.

In what seemed to be a final before a final, Nakuru rfc failed to contain hosts Homeboyz in a tight charged third quarter final match.

Homeboyz beat Prinsloo finalists 17-14 to proceed to semi final match. Homeboyz Leonard Mugaisi was sent to the sin bin as Nakuru capitalized on six men to level through Nelson Oyoo but tries from Homeboyz Captain Geff Oluoch and Zedi Maroow ensured sent hosts into semi final play.

Prinsloo champions KCB lost a chance to extend their winning ways after falling to Kabras Sugar. Brain Tanga opened the score for the sugar millers in the unconverted try before banker’s Shaban Ahmed leveled the score at 5-5 but Dominic Osino’s unconverted try extended the lead for Kabras to 10-05 into half time.

On the restart, Kenya sevens captain Andrew Amonde went past the white wash as Ahmed converted the try for a 12-10 lead for the bankers.

National sevens player Dan Sikuta sealed the victory for the Western based millers to 15-12.

Impala Saracens took it easy to beat Blak Blad 15-00 in the first main cup quarter final match.
