Amsterdam Marathon: Lawrence Cherono with course record

Kenyan Lawrence Cherono won today’s Amsterdam Marathon, leading an all Kenyan men for podium sweep in the Dutch City.

The Kaptagat based runner led Kenyans Nobert Kigen and Abraham Kiptum on the podium, with all top five athletes running sub 2:06, which is rare in a marathon.

Cherono who was cheered by fellow training mates in Eldoret won the race in 2:05.09 followed by Kigen who was being watched by his elder brother Mike Kigen crossed the finish line in 2:05.13 and Kiptum closed the podium in 2:05.26.

Amsterdam has been dominated by Kenyan runners especially Wilson Chebet who has four titles.

Unlike in Chicago marathon last weekend where Kenyans failed to dominate, it was Ethiopian Mule Wasihun finishing 4th in 2:05.39.

Wasihun spoilt the party for Kenyan runners where Laban Korir and Stephen Chebogut came 5th and 5th positions respectively.

With no live showing of the race, athletes gathered at Shakers Restaurant where they had to stream live on their phones as the events unfolded in the European Nation.
