Police cross country: Florence Kiplagat on mission

Chicago marathon champion Florence Kiplagat will be chasing for National Police Service cross country title as the championships get underway this Saturday at Ngong Race Course.

The event comes just weeks before the national cross country championships  cum trials for the  Africa Cross Country championships to be staged in Algeria.

The former world half marathon record holder, Kiplagat has since recovered from muscular crump injury that hindered her to defend Chicago title in 2017.

With two World cross country titles, the Iten based runner said her focus in to represent the police unit.

“The injury kept me off many events but I thank God I have recovered. My body didn’t respond well in Chicago and have had enough time to rest. I have started training again and hopefully during police cross country I will do my best,” said the former Berlin marathon champion.

Kiplagat has been in the world and won the 2009 World Cross Country meeting in Jordan.

“I have been doing well in the past races and come Sunday, I would like to improve on what I have already done.

She also won the 2010 World Half Marathon title and may likely face Stacy Ndiwa, former world half marathon bronze medalist Pascalia Jepkorir, 2016 Olympic Games 5,000m champion Vivian Cheruiyot among others.
