Winter Olympics: Sabrina Wanjiku Simader, the only Kenyan representative

Kenya will be represented by Sabrina Wanjiku Simader at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in the Korean City in Skiing.

As a sole representative, Wanjiku will compete in two categories-Giant Slalom and Super-G.

The 19-year-old pegged her qualification on hard work, passion, discipline and total dedication to training.

Simader has taken part in the Winter Youth Games (2016), the 2017 World Cup Alpine skiing circuit and World Skiing Championships in St Moritz last year.

She will become the second Kenyan to compete at the Winter Games after Philip Boit, a former middle-distance runner who participated in cross-country skiing at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Games.

Boit, who was handed over the national flag by Sports and Heritage Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Peter Kaberia, on Thursday night in Nairobi, will accompany Simader to South Korea as Kenya’s Chef De Mission.

Simader’s medal hunt was boosted in the night by South Korean Government that has come on board to sponsor her to a tune of KSh12million.

Simader’s rare ambition was also celebrated by the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) that has partnered with the South Korean Government.
