Today morning, race organsiers led by Moses Tanui received a hand full of cheques and pledges to ensure that the initiative is successful.
New KCC gave their donation of Kshs 500,000 while Coke Cola kshs 300,000, Reale Hospital kshs 500,000 gave 300,000 and 500,000 Kenya shillings respectively during the cooperate break-first held at Eldoret golf club.
Leading by example, the County government of Uasin Gishu’s deputy governor Daniel Chemno said that business community and cooperates should own the race and support it fully. With Kenyan marathoners winning majority of world major city marathons, Chemno pointed out that they are building a kingdom for them.
“Our athletes are kings out there without their own kingdom. And we are building a kingdom for them. The current and future athletes will have to enjoy the kingdom we are building now,” said Chemno.
He also urged athletes to avoid doping to keep their dignity across the world.
“Don’t dope, run clean and keep your honour and dignity.”
Tanui, the former double marathon champion said the race will attract international athletes and registration fee remains kshs 1,200.
“Imagine registering with kshs. 1,200 and win kshs 3 million? That is like selling a chicken and going home with a lot of money. We as organisers, we are looking at every athlete as a winner,” said
He added that their will be giving an opportunity for retired athletes an opportunity to serve runners on that day. Such move motivates young athletes.
The race starts at Kaprobu along Eldoret Ziwa Road for a long stretch before making several loops in town and ending near Uasin Gishu County headquarters within Eldoret town.
