Faiths put faith ahead of regional primary games

Cheptrit girls’ namesake Faith Toroitich and Faith Kitur qualified to compete at the Rift Valley regional games following their dominance in 5,000m race at the Uasin Gishu County primary Schools Sports Association held today at University of Eldoret’s pavilion.

Torotich won the 5,000m race in 17:56.26 ahead of her school mate Kitur (17:57.34) in one of the most competitive race.

The race was reduced into a two horse race as the duo exchanged leads. At the 6th lap, Kitur took control of the race but hard fighting Toroitich overtook her on the 11th lap to secure her chance first for the regiponal games to be staged in Kajiado county where 14 counties will compete for national slot to be staged in Mombasa.

“It was a good race for me especially after winning against my school mate. Now that I have a regional ticket, I know I will win and focus on national title. That is my target,” said Toroitich.

In 5,000mboys’ category, Abraham Lotor won the race ran under hot afternoon.

The Kalyet based pupil crossed the finished line in 15:31.62 ahead of Kevin Asirikwa (16:02.00) from Kapsoya primary.

Abraham Biwott was the 10,000m boys walk in 52:37. The Hidden Treasure based pupil was followed by Brian Kipchumba who clocked 54:00 while Mary Jepng’etich won the 5,000m walk girls category after stopping the timer at 28:02.44 followed by Joan Jepchirchir in 28:02.52.
