Ezekiel Odera won the Sportpesa/Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) player of the month winner today.
The 30 year old Odera became the first AFC Leopards player to win the coveted monthly prize in a ceremony held today at Camp Toyoyo, Nairobi.
The winning striker has scored four goals with two assists in the month despite losing his mother when the team was traveling to Awendo to face Sony Sugar FC.
“I am very pleased to win this award, especially since I’m the first Leopards player to win the award. I dedicate this award to my mother, the rest of my family and my teammates for the hard work they have put in to ensure that I’m recognised for the gong,” the elated Odera stated.
He is second top scoarer in the Kenya Premier League with six behind Nzoia Sugar’s Elvis Rupia who has six.
“I am definitely going for the Golden Boot this season. I’m part of a big club now and I have no doubt that I can and will be the top scorer at the end of the season,” said Odera.
Leopards is sixth on the KPL on 18 points, eight behind champions and arch rivals Gor Mahia FC with the two giants set to clash on Labour Day (May 1) in a one-off Mashemeji Derby where the winner will earn a dream ticket to face English side Hull City in Nairobi on May 13.
