Geoffrey Kamworor, Agnes Tirop tops Bengaluru race

Reigning world cross country champion Geoffrey Kamworor and former world cross country champion Agnes Tirop Jebet were the winners of the 2018 Bengaluru 10km race in India today.

The three-time world half marathon champion, won his third in Bengaluru title, first winning in 2012 and 2014, crossed the finish line in 28:18.

Ethiopia’s Birhanu Legese was second opted to go with reigning New York City Marathon champion Kamworor as he strode away from the rest of the elite field.

Edwin Kiptoo, Ethiopia’s 2018 Dubai Marathon winner Mosinet Geremew and Bahrain’s IAAF World Half Marathon Championships Valencia 2018 silver medalist Abraham Cheroben.

Legese came second timing 28:39 ahead of Geremew in 28:39 to complete podium positions.

Tirop broke her Kenyan compatriot Lucy Kabuu’s course record as the first three runners ran under the course record of 31:46.

Tirop beat Pauline Kamulu, Caroline Kipkirui and Ethiopia’s duo of reigning world half marathon Netsanet Gudeta and Senbere Teferi.

Tirop cut the tape in 31:19 ahead of Teferi’s 31:22 with Kipkurui third in 31:28. In tenth place, Indian running got a big boost as Sanjivani Jadhav took almost a minute off the previous national 10km record with a run of 33:38.
