Hosts Egerton University (Wasps) and University of Nairobi (UoN) Mean Machine will be competing for the Main Cup finals of the 4th leg 0f Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) Rugby sevens currently taking place at Egerton University.
The Wasps won the second semifinal match against United States International University (USIU) 14-05 while Mean Machine narrowly edged out Zetech University 7-5.
John Oloo made the first try for the hosts that was well converted by Patrick Kamau in the first half to give hosts 7-0 lead into the break.
On resumption, Kelvin Mburu touched the ground between the posts to give Kamau an ease conversion for a 14—0 lead. But hard working USIU slid in the reduced the points when Martin Juma failed to convert Eliud Mulukosi’s try for a 14-05 final score.
Wasps made it to the semifinals following their victory against University of Eldoret 17-07 while USIU ousted national defending champion Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 19-17.
In the first semifinal, UoN struggled to beat Zetech in a highly charged match. Kennedy Wafula Lusamamba touched the ground first but he missed to convert his try in the first half.
As the match was headed for final score, with Zetech leading, Lawrence Ingegi spoiled the part with his solo effort, touching between the posts as Walter Lumbasi converted easily for a 7-5 score.
In quarter finals, UoN defeated Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 28-19 as Egerton whipped Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT).
