Former world half marathon record holder Florence Kiplagat is set to compete at this year’s Tata Steel Kolkata 25K Road Race that will be held on Sunday (16) in Kolkata, India.
The former Chicago marathon champion will be making her trip for the 5th edition of the race as she competes in the Indian soil after claiming two titles at Delhi Half Marathon.
The former world half marathon champion will face off with the defending champion Degitu Azimeraw from Ethiopia with a course record of 1:26.01 in her first international race.
Tanzania’s Failuna Matanga will also be another title contender after finishing third at the last year’s edition 1:26.11 behind Hellah Kiprop from Kenya. Matanga had a great season this year, when she stunned Kenyans at the Bagamoyo Half Marathon by lifting the title. She went on to set a personal best of 1:09.36 at the Barcelona Half.
Also added on the list is Sutume Asefa from Ethiopia who also comes to this race with a personal best of 1:21.55 that she got in 2015 in Berlin over the distance.
