Debutants Eldonets won by a smaller margin against United States international University (USIU) side The Tigers in the opening match Uasin Gishu High School court on Saturday evening.
The hosts, who are making their first appearance at the Kenya Basketball Premier League defeated visiting USIU 69-65 in their opening match following their sponsorship deal by Platinum Credit.
James Ongwae and Mathew Kibet made 20 baskets for both Eldonets and USIU and the win according hosts coach Maurice Ouma has boosted their morale in the coming matches.
“It is a good and positive start for the team that was recently promoted. We have what it takes to take the lead and finish in top four at the end of the season,” said Ouma. The visitors won the first 13-14, losing the second to 19-08 followed by 14-13 loss and managed 23-30 win in the last quarter.
Jeremiah Aliva and Mark Miruka scored seven points each for Eldonets and The Tigers respectively.
