Reigning world 5,000m champion Edward Zakayo, Nelly Jepkosgei and Vincent Kibet shone at the 6th leg of IAAF Diamond League ran today in Rabat, Morocco.
Zakayo, the Commonwealth Games 5,000m bronze medalist won in his 5,000m ahead of Ethiopia’s Solomon Berihu and Soufiyan Bouqantar in third.
The only Kenyan runner at the starting line up clocked 13:11.49 for the title as Berihu (13:16.08) and Bouqantar in 13:17.26.
Jepkosgei won the women’s 800m timing 1:59.50 beating Habitam Alemu (1:59.90) and Olha Lyakhova (2:00.35) in third while Emmanuel Korir finished second in 1:45.60) behind Nijel Amos (1:45.57) in the two lap race.
Vincent Kibet won the men’s 1,500m timing 3:35.80 beating Hicham Akankam (3:35.85) and Alexis Miellet (3:35.98) as Ethiopians controlled podium positions with Genzebe Dibaba (3:55.47) wining the race edging out Sifan Hassan (3:55.93) and Gudaf Tsegay in third clocking 3:57.40.
Kenyan Benjamin Kigen finished third in men’s 3,000m steeplechase. Kigen clocked 8:07.25 behind Chala Beyo (8:06.48) and Getnet Wale in 8:06.01.
