Kasait, Wambui, Bett, Cheruiyot thrill Athletics Kenya trials

Former world cross country bronze medalist Lilian Kasait and World under 18 800m champion Jackline Wambui claimed titles on the last day of Athletics Kenya National track and field trials ahead of world championships in Doha, Qatar.

It was a good return for Olympic and world 1,500m champion Faith Chepngetich as well as former world 800m champion Eunice Sum.

Kasait, the former world Youth 3,000m champion won the 5,000m race beating Margaret Chelimo and Sheila Chelangat.

The West Pokot based runner, who also won silver at the world junior clocked 15:43.55 to book for Doha slot as well as Chelimo (15:46.65) and Chelangat’s 15:48.65.

Wambui, who won the world under 18 title in Kasarani in 2017 edged out former world champion Sum to second while Emily Tuwei completed the podium in the 800m.

Chepngetich (4:03.22), who returns from maternity won the 1,500m title ahead of Winnie Chebet (4:03.23) and Sela Jepleting’s 4:05.23.

In men, Diamond League title winner Timothy Cheruiyot (3:34.91) won the title beating Ronald Kwemoi (3”37.61) and world under 18 champion George Manangoi (3:37.00).

Leonard Bett won the 3,000m steeplechase title ahead of Benjamin Kigen and Abraham Kibiwott.

In 400m, regular winner Alfas Kishoyian emerged victorious in 45:65 ahead of Alex Sampao (46:06) and Joseph Pogisho (46:20).
