Kenya will be hosting the Africa Zone 4 Youth Chess Championships to be held between December 5th to 12th in Nairobi.
The under 16 championships will bring together Major junior players from across Africa, chasing for the title.
Kenya under the chess federation, the Chess Kenya successfully held the tournament in 2017 in Mombasa.
With such initiative, Kenya has been awarded the hosting rights.
This year’s event will mark the first championship ever since the new Africa FIDE Zones were installed in June 2019. Previously, Kenya belonged to Zone 4.2. The tournament will bring together players from 14 countries including the Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.
The winning team will automatically qualify to the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad. Kenya, as the host country, can enter a maximum of five teams.
