Kenya’s Zarika Fatuma failed to defend her World Boxing Council (WBC) World Super Bantamweight title against Yemileth Mercado.
The fight, which was the rematch of last year’s event when Zarika “Iron Fist” won against Mexican Mercado “Yemi” in Nairobi.
In a fight for revenge, Mercado defeated Zarika to relinquish her title in a fight hosted in Chihuahua, Mexico.
The homegirl won after she scored 99-91, 98-92, 99-91 compared to last year’s when Zarika beat Mercado.
The 34-year-old Zarika had earlier on defeated Zambian Catherine Phiri in 2017 to win the title and defended it against Mercado, who has finally won it.
Zarika’s record stands at 32 wins, 13 losses and two draws.
