Giants Moi, Strathmore proceed as JKUAT, TUK survive the axe at KUSA Games

Hosts Moi University dominated at home to qualify into the semifinals of the ongoing Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) at Moi University Annex campus.

Moi men defeated Mount Kenya University  (MKU) in five-thriller sets to make it into the best four set for Friday at the same venue.

After winning the first two sets of 25-19 and 25-21, Moi slumbered in the third and final set to make it into semis with ease but that never happened as they paid heavily, losing 22-25 and the 4th set of 24-26 to MKU but enjoying home support, they managed a slim 16-14 win in the 5th set to make it into the semifinals.

Winner’s player Byron Duke said the game was tough though they managed to recollect and their energy paid good dividends.

“It was a tough game but we fought a good fight and that’s what sent us to the semis. We are much more determined and remain focused till the end,” said Byron.

In other quarterfinals, Strathmore defeated Bomet University College in straight sets as Kenyatta University beat University of Nairobi by similar margin as well as Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) win over Kisii.

In football men, JKUAT had to wait until spot kicks to edge out Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) 4-3 following a one all draw in normal time at the same venue.

Ezekiel Itoko and Ian Opondo scored for KeMU and JKUAT respectively in normal time.

In the second quarterfinal, KU stunned BUC 2-1 with goals from Victor Otala scoring for BUC while Mark Ogolla and Clinton Bill were on target for KU.

At Hill school, Technical University of Kenya (TUK) reigned over Moi University 2-0.
