Am spending time with my family- Kiprop

Away from bustle and hustle to feed her family through running, three-time Vienna marathon champion Nancy Kiprop will be taking her time to bond with her children because of coronavirus pandemic that has led the sports industry to a standstill.

As she does her little build-up, she spends most of her time with her son and daughter, awaiting good results that coronavirus has been defeated to continue with the running career she chose after quitting teaching.

“Am doing small build-up at the moment as we remain optimistic that the world will be free from COVID-19. I had good plans this year after making my debut in the world marathon majors in New York,” said Kiprop.

The Iten based runner was to compete at the New York 10km in June, which has been cancelled. She was to use the race as part of her preparation to return to the New York City Marathon in November.

“We are just indoors having time with kids and getting more close them. I could get close to my school to play with kids but unfortunately, it is also closed. Now I have very little to do,” she said.

As a teacher by profession, Kiprop decided to let the chalk and blackboard aside to concentrate in running as well as small scale farming back in the village.

“As part of making sure that we are bonding, we watching movies and playing play station with my children. That is a serious bonding way since there is nothing more because our movements are restricted due to this pandemic,” she added.

Kiprop who finished 4th clocking 2:26.21 behind the winner Joyciline Jepkosgei (2:22.38), Mary Keitany (223.32) in second and Ethiopia’s Ruti Aga completing the podium in 2:25.51, scooped a hat trick in 2019 Vienna title timing 2:22.12 as her personal best following her 2018 and 2017 win smashing a 19-year-old course record set by Maura Vicente in 2000.

Following her win on 7th April, she was invited to the statehouse by Austria President Alexander Van der Bellen and for the first time, she stepped in a statehouse.
