Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has banned Kenyan long Distance runer Nicholas Kiptoo Kosgei for 16 months.
At the same time, AIU has suspended Kenyan born turned Bahraini Nelly Jepkosgei for Anti-Doping rules violation.
The AIU banned the Kenyan runner from sports for 16 months for the presence of a prohibited substance which is a violation of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules
A Kenyan-born Bahreini 800m runner, Nelly Jepkosgei received a provisional suspension for tampering or attempted tampering with the doping control process. If she is proved guilty she could face a 4-year ban from sports
Kiptoo was tested at the Corrida Internacional de São Silvestre’ held in Sao Paulo (Brazil) and at the ‘Meia Maratona do São Paulo’ held in Sao Paulo and was tested positive for the presence of Prednisone2 in the First Sample.
Prednisone is a Prohibited Substance under the WADA 2020 Prohibited List under the category S9 (Glucocorticosteroids). It is a specified substance prohibited In-Competition only in circumstances where they have been administered orally, rectally, or by intravenous or intramuscular methods.
The Athlete did not have a Therapeutic Use Exemption (“TUE”) permitting the use of Prednisone.
