Chepngetich smashes world record at Istanbul half marathon



World marathon champion Ruth Chepngetich broke the world half marathon with her win at the Istanbul half marathon ran today in Turkey.

In her third title win, Chepngetich smashes the world half marathon record in 64:02 as a new world record (mixed gender) beating then world record by 29 seconds that was held by Ethiopian Ababel Yeshaneh. 

Chepngetich, who is the in the Kenya Team for Olympic Games marathon team, edged out Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw to second 64:40 with world 5,000m champiojn, in her marathon debut finishing third 64:51 while Joan Chelimo came fourth in 55:09 ahead of world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei who timed 66:01.
