Former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga, Uasin Gishui county governor Jackson Mandago, Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga and Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) led a host of leaders to congratulate Ruth Chapengetich and Kibiwott Kandie for their victory at the 2021 Istanbul Half marathon ran today in Turkey.
The world marathon champion, Chepngetich won the race with a world record of 64:12 in the mixed race while Kandie defeated former world half marathon record holder Geoffrey kamworor for the title.
Kandie led the podium sweep for Kenyans with Kamworor second and Roncer Kipkorir in third. As Chpengetich won the title, world 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri was third in her 21km distance debut.

Your victory is a reminder to the world that indeed kenya is a distance running powerhouse. Thank you for once again flying our flag high. We are proud of you. Hongera.”
Mandago, on his official twitter handle @GvnMandago wrote “Congratulations Ruth Chepng’etich for winning and setting a new World Record of 1:04.02 at the Instanbul Half Marathon and Kibiwott kandie for winning the men’s race and setting course record at 59:32. #teamKenya who includes Marathon veterans did our nation proud in the event.”
Olunga on his official twitter account @OgadaOlunga wrote “Congratulations Ruth Chepngetich.”
The boxing federation wrote @kenyaBoxing “Congratulations Ruth chepngetich for winning and breaking women’s half marathon record in Istanbul, Turkey.”
