Athletes at this year’s Mutuini Half Marathon set for Sunday in Dagoretti South, Nairobi County will not receive any prize money.
As reported by Daily Nation, the race organizer Mwangi Mbugua said that due to lack of sponsors, the event won’t have prize money.
However, registration, which will commence on the material day (Sunday) morning will cost kshs 2,000.
Apart from the 21km, there will be 10km and 3.5km races with the money collected set to develop Mutuini Hope Centre, which provide meals and education support to orphans and vulnerable children in Mutuini ward.
“Covid-19 has really messed up things for us having failed to stage the event last year owing to the scourge. But we have to keep the race on. We also hope that sponsors will come on board like the other years soon,” Mbugua told Daily Nation.
Past winners of the race include Charles Mneria from Kenya Prisons and Perin Nenkampi of Kenya Defence Forces won the men and women races respectively during the second edition in 2019.
