Rotich wins as Omanyala, Moraa set their feet at Diamond League in Brussels

Olympic Games 800m silver medalist Ferguson Rotich continued with his superlative performance to claim the Brussels Diamond League in Belgium on Friday night.

Rotich who lost the Olympivc two lap race to compatriot Emmanuel Korir won the race in

1:43.81 as the only Kenyan winner in the meeting as compatriots Cornelius Tuwei (1:45.29) was third and Collins Kipruto finishing sixth in 1:46.56.

Making their debut in Diamond League series, national 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa and world under 18 400m silver medalist failed to impress after finishing 4th and 8th in 100m and 800m respectively.

Omanyala clocked 10.02 seconds with the race won by American Fred Kerley (9.94) who led a podium sweep with Trayvon Bromell (9.97) and Michael Norman (9.98).

Moraa, who won Tuesday Continental tour, fell short finishing 8th in 1:59.79 as Jamaican Natoya Goule won the title in 1:58.09.

World 5,000m Hellen Obiri (14:26.23), World 5,000m silver medallist, Margaret Chelimo (14:27.12), Lilian Kasait (14:30.32) and Eva Cherono (14:30.77) fell to Burundian Francine Niyonsaba (14:25.34)  who won the 5,000m women race with Ethiopian Ejgayehu Taye in 14:25.63 coming second.

Netherland’s Sifan Hassan won the 1,500m title in 4:14.74 ahead of Ethiopia’s Axumawit Embaye in 4:21.08 as Linden Hall completed the podium timing 4:21.38.
