Bunyore Starlets team manager Zachariah Amakhang’a is confident that his side will shine against Women Premier league champions Vihiga Queens on Sunday’s Football Kenya federation (FKF) Cup.
The Momboha playground encounter wil see the newly promoted side Bunyore take on the most experienced side Vihiga that defeated Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) to lift the Cecafa Caf qualifiers title.
“As the only Division One side that qualified to play in the quarterfinals, we are optimistic that we will get good results against Vihiga. We will approach this game tactically now that we are hosting the elimination match,” said Amakhang’a.
Last Saturday, Bunyore Starlets defeated Solasa Stima Queens 3-1 in the last Division One match at their backyard to get an automatic promotion into the Kenya Women premier league next season.
“We understand that we shall be playing against the national team therefore we have to be tactical. Vihiga has about 9 players that turn up for the Harambee Starlets but we know them. We have played against them in friendly matches and we have experience in playing them since they are girls just like what we have. We shall not fear them,” said Amakhang’a.
To reach this level, Bunyore eliminated premier league sides Nakuru Queens and Oserian Ladies and before their promotion, it was the only Division One side that had qualified to play in the quarterfinals.
“As the only Division One side in the tournament, that shows we are capable of bigger and better results for us,” he said.
However, he took issues with the new Vihiga signings who turned up at the CAF women CECAFA qualifiers, who might play with two different teams in the same season since the transfer window has not been opened.
He said that some players have joined Vihiga and played for other teams in the same cup and they will be playing come the weekend.
“Our opponents have signed many players but we have not. We don’t know if they will be allowed to play in the Cup or not. This poses a challenge but even if they play or not, we are ready for them,” explained Amakhang’a.
In other matches, Wadadia will be playing Kisumu AllStarlets on Saturday as the first game out of four, then three matches on Sunday.
Stima club in Nairobi will be hosting a double header with Ulinzi Stars taking on Zetech Sparks before Gspo Women play Kayole Starlets.
