Shujaa, the national rugby sevens team started on a winning note at the Vancouver sevens by beating Spain and Mexico ahead of South Africa in early Sunday encounter.
In the first match, the Innocent Simiyu led charges defeated Spain 17-05 and beat Mexico 45-07 in the second pool A match.
Against Spain, Shujaa broke the deadlock through Alvin Otieno before Willy Ambaka doubled the score with all unconverted for 10-0 into break.
On return, Spain went past the try line through unconverted try by Andres Arnau for 10-05 but Harold Anduvate’s converted try by Daniel Taabu sealed the 17-05 victory.
In the second match, Shujaa was on rampage beating Mexico 45-07 to collect six points and will be taking on the final pool match against South Africa at 3:35 AM EAT.
Debutant Levy Amunga converted his try for a 07-0 lead and skipper Nelson Oyoo converted try doubled the score to 14-0 and Otieno made the third try that he converted for 21-0 lead.
Willy Ambaka scored the converted try for 28-0 into break and Taabu extended the lead with his converted try to 35-0 but José Velasco Pons converted try reduced the defeat with a consolation on 35-07. Timothy Mmasi responded with unconverted try for 40-07 and Alvin Marube scored the last unconverted try.
