Langat, Jerono top Rome Marathon

Former Africa cross country champion Clement Kiprono Langat and former Yellow River Estuary Marathon bronze medalist Peres Jerono Lagat claimed the 26th edition of Rome marathon held today in Rome, Italy.

Making his debut in marathon, Langat defeated feigning Lagos City Marathon winner Emmanuel Naibei for the title.

He timed 2:08.27 for the title followed by Naibei for a 1-2 kenyan podium finish with Ethiopia’s Ulfata Deresa Geleta closing the first three podium finishes in 2:08.42.

Kenya’s David Kiprono Metto and Metaferia Bekele Muluneh from Ethiopia came home in fourth and fifth place in 2:09.45 and 2:14.46 respectively with Mathew Kipsaat also from Kenya crossed the line in sixth place in 2:15.06.

In women, Jerono won the title in 2:29.28 ahead of compatriot Judith Jurubet who settled in second place in 2:30.49.
