Cheptai to take on Yahualaw and Gidey at Valencia marathon

Former world cross country champion Irene Cheptai will be battling out with Yelezerf Yehualaw and Olympic Games 10,000m bronze medallist Letesenbet Gidey at the Valencia Half marathon set for October 24th. (All invited athletes at the bottom)

Cheptai, who two weeks ago managed second position at the 15km du Puy en Velay Road race on France enjoys a 1:06.43 take on Gidey as well as world 1500m record holder Genzebe Dibaba.

However, the Ethiopians have better time than all Kenyans on the course.

It will be an all Ethiopian battle, who both enjoy good time on the course. The 5,000m record holder with 14:06.62, also holds the 10,000m record set in Hengelo in 29:01.03 as well as the 15km world record in 44:20.

Dibaba on the other hand, the former Olympic Games 1500m Rio silver medallist, won Valencia title last year 1:05.18 while Senbere Teferi took the honors in 2019 with a time of 1:05.32.

Teferi also holds the 5Km record for women with 14:29. Another Ethiopia Yalemzerf Yehualaw comes a personal best of 1:04.40 and she third in the last World Half Marathon in Gdynia, Poland. She took 19 seconds off the world half marathon record, running a remarkable 1:03.44 at the P&O Ferries Antrim Coast Half Marathon.
