Nabutola primary school defeated national primary school champions Soin Girls to win the inaugural Heroes Community Volleyball tournament that came to an end on Sunday evening at the Koileel Samoe University College.
The Bungoma County outplayed Uasin Gishu’s Soin Primary in straight sets of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-17 to lift the title.
Head coach Geoffrey Kubasu Wekesa said that they wanted to test their form and fitness with the national school as part of their preparations for the school games set to kick off soon.
“It was good that we managed to win, by beating the national champions and we expect the same results when school games begin. This has been a long journey to stardom and when we started long ago as part of our training,” said Wekesa.
It was an easy encounter in the semifinals when Home Grown easily beat Equity Bank in straight sets of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-23 to sail to the finals.
It was do or die in the second semifinals with KDF fighting to the last minute to beat Scorpion in a five0-setter thriller in the second court.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) started on a high, winning the opening set 25-20, and in an alternating manner, Scorpion winning the second set 22-25, KDF with third set win in 25-17 with Scorpion winning the 4th in 25-20 but the final set was won by 15-25.
The unsung Kessegon defeated Cheptil in straight sets of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-23 for the title.
In the semis, Cheptil girls from Nandi County beat Kakamega’s Butere girls in straight sets of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-10 while Kessogon from Trans Nzoia County were too good for multiple national champions Lugulu Girls from Bungoma 3-1 (25-09, 25-14, 25-27 and 25-05) to cut the final tickets.
