Achieng to battle Basheel in Kenya’s Fight Night

Sarah Achieng will be taking on Anisha Basheel for the Commonwealth Women Championship lightwelter title in a fight dubbed ‘Kenya’s Fight Night’.

Organizers said: “To us it’s not about who wins and who loses. It’s about the positive impact this game will have to other women in the society. We believe that more girls will be inspired and the community perception about women participation is sports will change.”

Earlier, Achieng had been scheduled to take on Ruth Chisale of Malawi in a super lightweight Commonwealth title bout at Charter Hall, Nairobi on October 2 but the fight fell through for reasons that are yet to be made public.

Achieng, who turned pro in 2008 and has not lost any of her seven fights will be returning to the ring after a three-year hiatus since stopping  compatriot Joyce Awino (7-7- 1) in Nairobi on March 23, 2019.
