Uasin Gishu County governor Jackson Mandago has pledged to complete Chekaiya High Altitude Training camp to help athletes in training ahead of major events.
Speaking while hosting members of Athletics Kenya Masters from Uasin Gishu county, who were part of the Africa Open Masters Athletics championships that concluded at the Nyayo National stadium last Saturday.
“I have pledged to ensure the Chekaiya high altitude training camp in Kesses Sub County is completed on time for sports men and women to start using it. This is apart from bringing people together and helping athletes earn a living, sporting activities are very key in ensuring people leave a healthy life through continued exercise,” said Mandago.
The county boss also alluded that he will be incorporating the masters’ race into the Eldoret City Marathon and also boost their activities, promote the sport to attract more participants.
“These are the areas of discussion, that there is a possibility of the masters athletics to be incorporated in the Eldoret City Marathon and other support that will further help ease their activities,” said Mandago.
Some of the Athletics present recently represented the County Government of Uasin Gishu in the 13th edition of African Masters Championships Athletics that was held between 24th-27th November at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi and won 27 gold medals and 8 Silver Medals.
