Rocky Muchiri and Mercy Igambo triumphed at the national under-17 chess championships ended yesterday at the Makini School ahead of Africa Chess Individual Championships set for December 12th to 20th in Nairobi, Kenya.
Representing from Central region, Muchiri from the Chinga Boys’ won the boys under-17 category as the trials for the two day that started on Friday to Saturday evening when he amassed 3.5 points for the title ahead of Gideon Gekonge from Rift-Valley with three points.
In girls’ Ingando collected maximum points to emerge victorious relegating Ivy Nyambura from Alliance Girls to second after collecting four points.
In the under-15 boys’ category, Aguda Lwanga of Nairobi region collected five points to emerge winner beating Dhirav Shah from Coast region to second with four points.
The boys’ under-13 category was won by Timothy Serule from Nairobi region who got five points and second position was won by James Kanango collected four points.
Zenah Ibrahim was the girls’ under-13 winner with Devashri Shah as first runners-up.
The under-11 boys’ winner was Ruhan Shah followed by Don Muiruri while Elizabeth Casiddy was the girls’ winner ahead of Fantalis Nduta.
