Sheila Jebiwott and Patrick Kipng’eno were crowned the champions of the second edition of Mount Kenya mountain Running Championships held today in Meru.
Coming from Iten in Elgeyo marakwet County, Jebiwott won the race on her debut in 52:28.7 ahead of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Joyce Njeru (52:36.8) to second and double world Mountain Running champion Lucy Murigi (53:02.6) to third positons respectively.
In men’s race, Kipng’eno won the title in 44:13.4 ahead of Charles Loker (44:40.1) and Frederick Kamungole settled third timing 44:40.6.
In junior races, David Mwangi won the men’s title while Everline Syombua was the women’s victor in the 8km category.
Mwangi clocked 30:44.5 for the title followed by Alfred Cheruiyot (30:45.5) and William Kimosop was third after timing 30:55.6.
Syombua won the women title in 35:43.9, beating Peninah Mukonene and Maureen Kathure in 41:19.9 and 42:15.3 respectively.
