World under 20 800m bronze medalist Noah Kibet was the first Kenyan to win a medal at the ongoing World Athletics Indoor championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The junior runner won silver in the 800m at the Stark Arena in Belgrade as he focuses to defend his world under 20 title at the Cali, Colombia later this year.
He timed 1:46.35 for silver behind Spaniard Mariano Garcia who won gold in 14:46.20 as American Bruce Hoppel completed the podium in 1:46.51.
But it was disappointing for national 60m record holder Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala who bowed out of the 60m race at the smifinals.
Omanyala, who had won his heat during the day, finished 4th in heat 1 of the semifinals when he clocked 6.64 with American Marvin Bracy winning in 6.51 followed by jerad Elcock of Trinidad and Tobago in 6.63.
With top two finishers making it to the finals, his heat was the slowest as Lamont Marcel Jacobs won the second heat in 6.4 followed by Adab Thomas for second in 6.57 and Karl Nazarov in 6.59 to seal finals as the fastest heat to lock out Omanyala.
