Nandi’s Rugut win Captain’s prize title in Eldoret

Handicap 32 golfer Vincent Rugut carded 38 points to win the captain prize golf title at the par 71 Eldoret golf club.

With his maiden win, the Nandi Bears golfer said the course was so challenging but managed to romp to victory to mark the end of Nathan Tororei as the club’s captain to usher in Jackson Kiprono.

With over 90 golfers, Rugut, who also plays Tennis, Squash and badminton said that he started playing golf in 2018.

“All in all the course was good though the captain exerted some challenges in hole 2 where he forced us to use number 3 iron for par 3 and in number 7, he made all the golfers to use a driver, which is also a part 3,” he said.

“For hole 10, there was also a challenge where we had to pick a ball from the bunker, where it had written the club that you were to use to play luckily I picked a wedge and I managed to lay the ball well and I enjoyed the course,” he said.

Despite all the challenges, he admitted that the course, generally, had fairly challenges.

“I have played here before but the few challenges the captain placed on the course, made it entertaining. I had difficulties in hole 2 because I was not aware that am supposed to use iron 3 and that is the hole that I almost blanked and came home with my first win in this club after I managed the first nine prize. Apart from golf, I also play tennis, badminton and quash,” he said.

Another Nandi player Isaac Kuto was in second position with 37 points and Eldoret’s Anthony Yano completing the podium with 36 points.

Home lady captain Diana Chemweno and Kenneth Serem were the longest drive winners in women and men while Pyare Aggarwal was nearest to pin winner.

Both on 19 points, Elvis Kiplimo and zadock Tanui, all from Nandi Bears were the first and second nine winners respectively.
